DeSoto Fireflite 5.4 V8 1956

This is a unique opportunity to acquire an original 1956 DeSoto Fireflite Indy 500 Pacecar. Fewer than 400 of these were built, and in this condition probably a unique rarity in Europe, if not worldwide! In January 1956, DeSoto announced that it had been selected to drive the 1956 Indianapolis 500 Race. DeSoto chose a Fireflite convertible with special interior and exterior finishes. Like all Fireflite Indy 500 Pace Cars, this one features a 330 cu-in with 256-hp Hemi V8. A heavy-duty transmission and a stiffer suspension completed the performance features. All of this then allowed the Pace Car to reach a top speed of 230 mph. Because the Pace Car was never designated as a separate model, no accurate production data exists. It is believed that fewer than 400 were produced, and that only about 35 of these probably remain worldwide today. The paintwork is in excellent condition and the chrome also has a deep shine. The comfortable interior with gold vinyl upholstery and brown fabric inserts is also in very good condition and almost as good as new. The 5.4 liter V8 engine runs well and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly. Equipped with white wall tires and beautiful original gold hubcaps that match the entire look perfectly, this DeSoto looks great.
