The car offered here is from the collection of BP Classics. The following information was made available by the seller.
The Volvo 850 was the car that significantly improved Volvo's image in the 1990s. Before the era of the 850, Volvo was mainly associated with boring drivers and cars with the streamlined shape of a bus shelter. Therefore, Volvo decided to design a modern and sporty car that would change this image. Despite its square design, the car had good aerodynamics. Moreover, it was the first Volvo with front-wheel drive and the first car with four airbags. Volvo was determined to build a successful model, so a lot of money was invested in the design. The sedan and station wagon produced between 1991 and 1997 have now become a popular youngtimer, partly due to its timeless design and high reliability.
Under the hood was always a five-cylinder engine, which gave the 850 a very distinctive sound, better known among enthusiasts as "The Roffel." To emphasize its sporty character, Volvo decided to participate in the British Touring Car Championship. It was notable that Volvo even used a station wagon on the circuit! In 1995, according to many, the highlight of the 850 range was presented, the Volvo 850 T5-R. The top model, available only in signal yellow, jet black and dark green, was based on the T5 and co-developed by Porsche. The German sports car manufacturer supported the Swedes technically, but also interfered with the interior, resulting in, among other things, the chic leather upholstery with Alcantara.
Through modifications to the electronics and turbocharger, the 2.3-liter engine now produced 240 horsepower. This resulted in a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. Especially in black or green, the T5-R is a real "sleeper" because of its modest appearance in family packaging. In 1996, the 850R was its successor. And in 1997-1998 the V70R.
About this car UWW 281. This car was produced in 1995 but was not sold new in Italië until 1997. Due to import regulations in Italië and Taiwan, Volvo produced a small number of these cars especially for these countries with exactly the same specifications and engine type, but with a smaller displacement, only 1,984 cc (2.0 liters) and had 14 hp less than the original 2.3 liter engine. Due to the rarity of this type of car, this car was bought by a Swede and returnedïmported to Sweden in 2004. In 2016 we bought the car from Sweden.
The car drove well and also optically the car was a very nice car, the only thing that was not original was that the car had a set of original 17" Volan Wheels from a 1996 Model R, when it should actually have a set of 17" Titan Wheels. We never replaced them, but we now have some Titans in stock and if the buyer of this car would like a set of Titans, we can make an offer when we pick up the car. All this time, since we bought it, this car has been in our warehouse.
At the moment the car is not starting, the problem is probably the fact that when we used a power support to start it, the support was connected wrong, plus to minus and minus to plus. We decided to leave the car as it is and a good mechanic will be able to solve this problem easily. Otherwise, it is a nice car with reasonable mileage on the odometer, good for many more miles!
To get a good idea of the lot we recommend you come to the viewing day.
