This exceptional 1954 Panhard X86 Dolomites Pichon-Parat has a fascinating racing history and is a stunning example of the craftsmanship of Pichon & Parat. Built on the chassis of the iconic Panhard Dyna, the Dolomites was specifically designed for speed and stability, with a streamlined steel body that caught the attention of many a racing driver. One of the very first Dolomites produced, this model was ordered directly by Laurent Sagnier and quickly transformed for competition use by the famous French workshop of Pichon and Parat.
History and Competitive Background
With an impressive track record, this Panhard began its racing life at the 1954 Tour de France Automobile. It later scored a victory in the sport category at the 1955 Aix-en-Provence International Rally. The Dolomites changed hands several times over the years, being cherished by renowned collectors and further refining its appearance. From a subtle rebuild to the air intake to an impressive blue finish, the car always remained true to its sporting heritage. Thanks to the extensive documentation included, this Dolomites is a one-of-a-kind collector's car for good reason.
Authentic Characteristics and Technical Details
The Panhard features the original, two-piece V-shaped windshield, a recognizable style feature of this light and agile sports car. The vehicle features parts added later by Panhard expert Jean-Pierre Allain, including a more recent suspension and a 5-hp engine for improved performance. Not only is this Dolomites a valuable piece of automotive history, but it can also be used in numerous historic racing events.
This model offers the rare opportunity to own an exceptional piece of French motorsports history, with a track record that lends itself perfectly to both exhibitions and classic rallies. A Panhard of this allure, with such a transparent racing history, is a standout on the road and in any collection.
