Description

This AC 428 Frua Coupe with manual transmission, like this one, is one of only about 51 coupes built. The combination of Italian elegance and brutal American V8 power makes this car an icon of the 1960s. This particular example was previously part of a prestigious collection in the Middle East and is in remarkably original condition.

Italian Design with American Power

The idea of a stylish Italian body combined with the reliable and powerful American V8 engine was very popular in the late 1960s. AC Cars decided to transform their iconic Cobra chassis into a luxury Gran Turismo. The chassis of the Cobra MkIII was extended by 15 cm and sent to Italy, where it was given an elegant steel body by famed designer Pietro Frua. The result was the AC 428, a car that made an immediate impression at both the Earls Court Motor Show in 1965 and the 1966 Geneva Salon.

Exceptional Performance and Rarity

This AC 428 is equipped with Ford's legendary 7.0-liter V8 engine, good for 345 horsepower. Despite the car's considerable weight (1,416 kg) and without automatic transmission, this sporty coupe achieved impressive performance: a 0-100 km/h sprint in less than six seconds and a top speed of over 240 km/h. The powerful engine and manual transmission make this car a real thrill to drive.

Exceptionally Original Condition

This example has remained largely in original condition, with only one repaint of the exterior to maintain its luster. The interior, on the other hand, is still completely original and is in beautiful condition with a slight patina. The leather is still supple and comfortable, which is rare for a car of this age. Equipped with the iconic Wolfrace "knock on" rims, this AC 428 exudes the exclusivity and style one expects from a high-end sports car of the 1960s.

An Ultimate Cruiser

The sound of the 428 V8 engine is truly mesmerizing and the performance is exceptional. The manual transmission shifts smoothly with no unwanted noises. This is a car that invites cruising, whether on the highway or on scenic country roads. With only six examples built with a manual transmission, this is a unique opportunity for the enthusiast and collector.
