The 1969 Jaguar E-Type S2 4.2 Coupe is one of the most iconic models in automotive history. Introduced in 1961, the E-Type instantly managed to impress the world with its sleek lines, advanced engineering and impressive performance. Even Enzo Ferrari once called the E-Type "the most beautiful car in the world." The second series, produced starting in 1968, brought subtle changes, such as improved cooling, larger headlights and an updated interior. This example, a coupe with a powerful 4.2-liter six-cylinder engine, represents the timeless design and performance for which Jaguar is known.
The 4.2-liter engine in this S2 offers 265 horsepower, mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Jaguar chose an upgraded engine configuration at the time to increase torque and improve driving comfort. The dual carburetors and advanced independent suspension system ensured that the E-Type was not only fast, but also offered excellent handling. Although this car is not currently drivable, the mechanical basis of this model remains a solid starting point for future restoration or maintenance.
The exterior design of the E-Type, even after more than sixty years, remains undiminished impressive. The long hood, graceful curves and distinctive rear end make this coupe an enduring style icon. Due to international regulations, the S2 received larger bumpers and was equipped with improved cooling vents at the front, making the cooling system more efficient. All without compromising Malcolm Sayer's original design, which remains both elegant and aerodynamic.
The E-Type S2 4.2 Coupe remains a sought-after classic among collectors, thanks in part to its combination of performance, design and historical significance. The current condition of this car offers an interested enthusiast the opportunity to bring the technology back to life and thus become part of Jaguar's rich history. With the proper attention and knowledge, this example can once again become a driving tribute to one of the most iconic sports cars of the twentieth century.
