The 1913 Ford T Speedster is a car that harkens back to the absolute early years of automotive history. The Ford Model T, often affectionately called the ‘Tin Lizzie’ was the car that made mobility accessible to a wide audience and, in doing so, changed the world. Henry Ford’s revolutionary production method, with the assembly line as the most important innovation, made the Model T affordable and eventually sold in millions worldwide. This particular example, an early Speedster version, is a special appearance that highlights the Model T's sporting potential.
The Speedster version was a popular choice in the early twentieth century for enthusiasts who wanted more dynamics and speed from their car. A lighter body and more streamlined design allowed the Model T Speedster to outperform the standard versions, which were used primarily as practical vehicles. This example, with its distinctive sharp nose, wire wheels and two leather seats, exudes that pioneering spirit of motoring in its purest form. At a time when roads consisted largely of sand and cobblestones, this was a car for the adventurous driver.
One of the most distinctive aspects of the Model T is its simplicity and mechanical purity. The car is equipped with a transverse leaf spring suspension, an innovative system that contributed to driving comfort on the rough roads of the time. The engine is a classic example of early internal combustion engines: a four-cylinder with a simple but robust design that was revolutionary in its reliability and ease of use at the time. Although the engine is not currently running, it has stalled, the car is still an impressive piece of history that lends itself to restoration or as a static showpiece.
What makes this Ford T Speedster extra special is that it is one of the first examples from the Model T's long and influential production history. In 1913, Ford was still at the beginning of mass production as we know it today. This makes cars from this period extra rare and historically valuable. Moreover, this Speedster is still in beautiful condition, with an original look that perfectly preserves the charm of more than a century of automotive history.
The four headlights, minimalist cockpit and fully open driving experience make this not just another classic car, but a time machine on wheels. Get in and you immediately experience what driving a car felt like in the very early twentieth century: pure, mechanical and full of character. This was a car for people who wanted to explore the limits of mobility, and that feeling can still be felt today.
